I love making the unexpected. As a male knitter, most folk expect me to keep to ordinary items. In fact I'd rather make novelties. A doll instead of a scarf, a pair of bright socks instead of a sweater, anything but what a recipient would expect!

Hmmmm . . . My favorite kind of gift to knit is definitely a hat - quick, a million great patterns, and you can't have enough! @doviejayknits

I like to gift hats, scarves, and fingerless gloves to aunts, uncles, and cousins--I can knit a bunch of items from the same pattern in different colors. That way, nobody gets a "better" gift, and if they want to swap colors, they can.

I love to knit the kind of gift that will keep the recipient happy for years to come. Six years ago I knit a great blue blanket for my godson before he was born. It may not cover all of him anymore, but he still uses it to this day.

I love making something handmade that's unique and you can't buy it in the store. I've always loved receiving those handmade gifts too!

I'm knitting with Little Red Bicycle's Penny Farthing sock in Antigone right now! I adore the colours that LRB come up with, and the names are so evocative.

I love giving fingerless gloves. Each pair is unique and I use them to test out new skills before working on a larger piece. They're so easy to experiment with and I think everyone should have at least one pair.

I like quick knits for gifts - cowls, mitts, erc

I like to give something practical, but with flair (ie. something they couldn't buy). Last year, I did a theme of mittens and gloves. Everyone got very different gloves, tailored to their personalities.

My current favourite thing from Little Red Bicycle are her miniskein packs. Perfect for sock yarn blankets without having to go to the trouble of knitting socks first!

I could spend a fortune on ANY of those sites! LOL!
My favorite gifts to knit are the sweaters that I make. Each of my four children gets a hand-knit sweater for Christmas. Surprisingly, even my boys love their Christmas sweaters! :-) Nothing like your kids telling you how much they love the sweaters that you've knit for them. :-)
On Ravelry I'm Teish.

Yummy prizes!
For gifts, I like to make smaller items. Especially if I have a long to knit list. I have three pair of Bella mittens lines up, with a fourth pair just added. I hope they are a quick knit for me!

For gifts, the difficulty of the project is proportional to how much the recipient will appreciate it: my handwork-loving friends get socks and lacy scarves and whatnot, while my other friends get hats or scarves in worsted or aran weight superwash.

For gifts I like to do felted household items - coasters, bowls, hot pads, etc. No chance of getting the size wrong!

(Sidebar: I love! the Gifts issue.)
I could browse the knitpicks site for hours. Currently, I'm all distracted by the kits - the Winter Wonderland kit (and its predecessors) I just love, and the mittens kits- I love the colors.

I LOVE to make hats as gifts. They go quickly but I can really jazz it up with cables or lace if I want, and can use the recipient's favorite colors.
